As lighting accounts for close to 20 percent of the average home’s electric bill switching from traditional light bulbs to CFL’s (compact fluorescent light bulbs) has been a cost effective environmental change that is lighting up homes all across America. CFL’s use up to 75 percent less energy than traditional light bulbs, last up to 10 times longer, and provide a quick return on investment. However, the mercury inside compact fluorescents is harmful to humans and the environment if the bulbs are not disposed of properly. Throwing them in the trash…NOT GOOD!
